Tina Bessell

We're pleased to welcome Tina Bessell to Radio Newquay.

Hi I’m Tina and I’ve been involved in radio ever since living in Cyprus and volunteering with BFBS radio supporting forces families. I had previously spent 17 years in the RAF as an intelligence officer and doing a bit of flying, before leaving the military after having two children. 

My links to Cornwall go way back to family holidays.  As a student, I spent two summers in Newquay and my time as a pilot in the RAF also relates to Newquay, having gone first solo at RAF St Mawgan as a uni student. 

I spent a lot of time visiting my future mother in law in St Newlyn East having fallen in love with a former Tretherras boy before we finally settled here after living in Cyprus when our kids were little some 8 years ago now. I worked at Treloggan industrial estate before I went back to uni to study journalism and broadcasting at Falmouth University which led to 4 years working at Pirate FM. 

I love the vibrant north coast of Newquay and the surrounds for walks and surfing as well as the fantastic restaurants and live music scene. And Poldark is never very far away!!! 

I now find myself living on a farm, as a smallholder with sheep and poultry and occasionally pigs too and I’ve been setting up a lavender farm too. 

I’m passionate about radio and young people having set up the Goonhavern Beaver group and I’m so looking forward to supporting all the fantastic community events that go on in and around Newquay and local villages.
