The Environment Agency says slurry pollution that entered a stream at Mawgan Porth over the weekend has now been contained - but people are still being advised to stay out of the water.
On Saturday, the agency issued a warning for people to avoid entering the stream, which flows onto the beach. Today (Monday), it confirmed the pollution source had been stopped following work with a local farmer.
A spokesperson said:
“Our officers have worked with a farmer in Cornwall to contain slurry pollution which entered a stream flowing on to Mawgan Porth beach. The source of pollution has been stopped, but there is still a risk of reduced bathing water quality. Our officers were on site this morning taking samples from the stream and bathing water. If you're on the beach, you're advised not to go into the stream.”
